Welcome to Castlegate
Free and confidential information, support, advice and counselling to young people and adults aged 16 to 25 who live in the city of York
The Castlegate building will be open for drop in sessions Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30–16:30 and for pre-booked counselling and learning and support appointments.
A new City Centre offer which will deliver city centre services alongside Adult Services and other partners is being created at Sycamore House (Clarence Street near York St John University) which should be ready from May 2017. These timescales allow for the completion of building work to remodel the building.
Before the new offer from Sycamore House opens a revised city centre offer for young people will be available from 29 Castlegate between January and May 2017. During this time you can access the following services.
Information and support
If you are aged 16–19 (up until your 19th birthday) you will be able to receive face to face support, telephone support, a texting and email service and 24-hour access to information and support from the online version of the Survival Guide and the YorZone website.
Drop-in sessions will be available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30–16:30 to provide initial information and signposting to further support across the city that can help. For example, for support to access housing and benefits advice, making appointments etc.
Specialist Information, Advice and Guidance service
Trained Learning and Work Advisers will work across the city and come to Castlegate and to Sycamore House to provide a Specialist Information, Advice and Guidance service to young people who are aged 16–18 that are Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) , those who are in the care of the Local Authority, those in alternative education provision, and those in the youth justice system.
The Learning and Work Advisers will provide information, advice and guidance through appointments, group work and workshops at arranged times during the day that suit the needs of young people and they will also have available appointments at other locations across the city.
Trained Counsellors will continue to provide an appointments based Counselling service for young people aged 16–25 years old from Monday to Friday.
